The Lucky Few is the name given to the generation that falls between the Greatest Generation and the Baby Boomers. Born during the depression, this generation lost the fewest members to wars and were beneficiaries of 1950’s economic prosperity. But their rebels - Marilyn Monroe, Miles Davis, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jane Goodall - are some of America's greatest icons.
The Lucky Few follows Jane and Thomas, two people from two different generations, who meet at a VFW dance in South Dakota on New Year's Eve, 1959. These two embody America at the time, torn between a glorious past and an uncertain future: the year the U.S. entered the space race, Lenny Bruce appeared on NBC for the first time, and Miles Davis began recording Kind of Blue.
Jane is a songwriter making "raucous" new rockabilly music trapped in a lackluster relationship and a lackluster band. Thomas is a decorated WWII veteran with a secret he's kept hidden until tonight. They should be in complete conflict, but in a single night, they change each other's lives.
The Lucky Few is about change in the macro and the micro and what we do when we are at a threshold in our lives.
